Relationships

Which relationship has taught you the most about yourself?

Being a mother has taught me more than anything else! I am blessed to have two boys who are both adults. One has a lot of special needs and another a very typical one! It would have been wonderful if I had a girl, but this pair has made my life wholesome.

Lot of people talk about raising kids being expensive. You can’t put a dollar value to love and affection! I used to tease my second kid that he has to book me a vacation in Hawaii when used to drive to his swim classes during rush hour traffic! It was hectic, it was tiring and it was expensive. But memories stay.

My special one needs lots of care. I always say I do not love the kind of autism my son has but I love my son and recently I messaged a friend saying “things we do for them”, being typical or neurotypical!

If I had not been a mom, I would have missed on a lot!

A bit busy this last few days of September. Excited to do my monthly wrap up tomorrow. See you all then.

  1. What a beautiful and honest reflection on motherhood. ❤️ Your words beautifully capture something that numbers can never measure—the love, patience, sacrifice, exhaustion, laughter, and countless little memories that make raising children such a profound journey.

I especially loved your thought that you may not love the challenges your son faces, but you deeply love your son. That distinction comes from a place of genuine understanding and unconditional love.

    1. Thanks for the kind words!

  2. You maternal love spells through your writings

  3. This post resonated with me – being a parent has taught me the most about life as well. I hear you when you say you don’t love the disability but you love your son. I feel the same about my son and FASD. On some days, it’s hard to separate the two but I know my love for him will overcome my dislike for the symptoms of his disability!

    1. People do confuse about the love for their kid and the disability! I know there are lot of autistics and their parents who say they are blessed! But my son undergoes a lot of anxiety for simple silly things and communication is so hard for some basic stuff I can’t accept his disability! His autism is hard! But whatever he is the love of our life! Ab you too are overlooking the symptoms and you enjoy him too.

  4. You’re so right that being a mom is a gift.
