Duck Race

What started in November ended yesterday. A water leak in the basement, followed by multiple investigations and repairs, ended with a carpet installation late yesterday evening. Six months ordeal and my husband is even now scared to use one of the toilets in the house. We can safely call it PTSD.

Anyhow I have been binge watching or sleeping with Midsomer Murders. This is my second time watching . I had watched this 5 years back and I am surprised I don’t remember many of the story lines. The interesting thing was I noticed more of the Chief Inspector Barnaby’s wife character and her work in the community. A couple of days back WordPress asked a question what do you do to be involved in the community and I can say with confidence Mrs. Barnaby would get a medal for all the work she does from fund raisers to volunteering and even singing in the choir.

I do not volunteer anywhere which I feel a bit guilty now and then. But I can hang a board in front of my house asking volunteers to drop by occasionally. In fact if people work with my boy they can get community hours🤷‍♀️.

Anyhow , today was our community day. So if attending these events makes me a community person I can get some honorable mention at least. I attend most of the events with my special one that happen around here. When my kids were little we used to go for the parade. But today we decided to go and see the duck race. It was so much fun. We thought our duck won the first prize. But on further enquiry it didn’t. So for weekend coffee share here are some pictures from our community duck race.

The ducks being dumped
The journey starts
Off they go
Few are ahead than others
And we have a winner 😊
On a cloudy day this boy was so brave he got dunked so many times 😄

By the way we did not get the ducks we sponsored. They would be reused for next year’s duck race and I am pretty much hoping I can make it again to watch and have some fun. (Some ducks were smart that they escaped and went down the stream, I hope they all were caught.)

  2. Our Lions Club used to do a yearly duck race, but there were so many odd things over the years that we dropped it. Thinking of “drop”, it is now a duck drop, where the ducks are let go from the top of the fully extended firetruck ladder and winners are those who hit a bullseye…

    1. I think you need a stream with water. We were lucky with rains yesterday. The duck drop looka difficult.

      1. So we had issues with the river in our town – one year, we’d have a flood, the next it would be a drought and almost empty. It was also hard to see the ducks most of the tie. The duck drop is actually easier and the kids in town really love it.

Am new to this duck race. My daughter lives in Mt Leb.
Are these real ducks or toys?

  4. Those duck races sound fun. We had a water loss last year..not a major one, but an inconvenient one. Thankfully my husband works for a restoration company. Phew.
