Food and festivals!

Every culture has a lot of festivals and they all revolve around food!

Today is Varalakshmi Pooja for me! Prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess of Wealth! Over the years I have written a lot about this day and how I love doing this festival!

This year however I was craving for all the different dishes I make for this festival! My husband has been a diet police the past few months! Carbohydrates, sugar and oil was so limited! So, I was more than energetic to make the same! An excuse to make and eat!

Sundal or the channa dal or a lentil curry! Can be called healthy since it was soaked overnight, cooked and boiled.
Idli or steamed rice cake! Carb loaded but no oil!
Sugar loaded rich and creamy milk payasam or pudding!
The salt and savory kozhukattai! sweet fillings and spice fillings in rice flour ! Of course carb loaded!
Maha neivedyam or THE white rice! Our everyday staple. With a dash of paruppu or toor dal or lentil with ghee! This is my comfort food but people say this is carbs!
The last but not least the Urad Vada or the lentil donut! Soaked and grinded fresh and deep fried in oil! Why did this become an unhealthy food!
Offerings today
My son’s plate today!

I really know I have to take antacids tonight or make a big walk after all this food intake! But I cooked the food, skipped breakfast and made around 5,000 steps in the process. That should count to something.

The past two days, I have spent time inside the gym and on the trails with my son and have had realtime autism moments. I needed this binge eating day!

All said and done, I enjoyed my prayers today as I welcomed Goddess Lakshmi into my home and did Shodoshopachara pooja.

  1. A festival meal has its own rules, and apparently the diet police get a day off during Varalakshmi Pooja. Glad you enjoyed the food and the celebration.

  2. Some sects are celebrating the Pooja on 28 th August.

    1. Yes you are right!
