Not feeling guilty

What’s a promise you made to yourself that you’ve actually kept?

Yesterday I went to the movie Odyssey! I gifted myself that three hours of free time. I didn’t ask anyone’s company just me and my large nachos and cheese.

I came home and learnt my special young man took a second serving of dinner 🙂! I had already fed him but my husband fed him again. With me switching off the phone, and engrossed in the movie I didn’t follow up what was happening at home.

I am smiling at myself! Yes, I can unwind myself. I can find an activity that can make me temporarily forget I have a special needs grown adult son, and I can enjoy my life.

Yes, I didn’t feel guilty about my day out nor feeling guilty my son had dinner twice 😀🤷‍♀️!

I have promised myself “no more caregiver’s guilt “ and I stuck to that!

There were two movies that I wanted to see in the big screen released this past week! A Tamil movie, Jananayagan, since the actor became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in a surprise election win and The Odyssey which being Nolan’s film has so much hype attached to it! I chose Odyssey since I did a course on coursera on it! I like Greek Mythology and history. I knew my husband would be the first person to watch the Tamil movie and it would be in my living room TV lot many times.

I am not a movie critic, but I liked the movie. The fact that I didn’t sleep a wink or get bored or look at my phone or think about my home is definitely a positive review for the movie. A lot of people are planning to watch it on IMAX or IMAX 70mm but I did it on a regular screen. So my review is not wholesome.

Anyhow one FOMO item checked off the list this weekend! 😊

  1. Love this! ❤️ Tomorrow I’m gifting myself a guilt-free physio session too. 😍🌼

    1. Enjoy yourself!💕

  2. Dear Ganga ji, what a wonderfully honest and uplifting post! 👏

I am so incredibly proud of you for sticking to your promise of “no more caregiver’s guilt.” That three-hour block with just you and your large nachos sounds like absolute heaven—and the fact that you didn’t check your phone or feel restless is the highest compliment a movie can get from a mom like you.

It takes real strength to unplug and trust the home front, and major kudos to your husband for stepping in and handling dinner (twice!) so you could truly have that break. Choosing The Odyssey based on your Coursera course was such a boss move—feeding your intellectual curiosity while enjoying your alone time.

You are not just a caregiver; you are a whole person with passions, tastes, and needs, and you honored that beautifully this weekend. Consider that FOMO item thoroughly conquered! Keep this energy, Ganga ji—you absolutely deserve every bite of those nachos and every minute of that screen time. More power to you! ❤️🙌

    1. Thanks so much.

  3. Couldn’t be happier for you!

    1. Thanks 🙂🙏!

  4. What a heartwarming and inspiring post! I admire your honesty and the gentle reminder that caregivers also deserve moments of joy and self-care. Treating yourself to a movie, enjoying your own company, and returning home without guilt is not selfish—it is healthy and necessary.

I especially smiled at the story of your son having a second dinner. Sometimes life gives us little moments that remind us everything is perfectly fine even when we step away for a while. Your promise of “no more caregiver’s guilt” is powerful, and I’m glad you kept that promise to yourself.

    1. Thank you. 🙏

  5. “no more caregiver’s guilt” Is that really a thing that’s possible? I’m happy you took an afternoon for yourself and had a good time. I had to Google “coursera” are the courses there really free?

    1. Coursera courses were free long time ago. Now you pay a monthly fee. I have done courses for free and paid money to get certifcates. I don’t think they have that option now. But they are really good lecturers.

  6. Good for you, you deserve it. I love that your son has second dinner and that you gave yourself this gift.

    1. Thanks 🙏!

  7. Guilt free time to yourself is the best form of self care. Trips to the movies by myself are one of my favourite activities -especially for horror movies. Glad you had this time!

    1. I am trying to figure things out! I should let go of my control over my son’s life when he is with his dad 😀!

      1. That is a good idea. We like to do a divide and conquer approach here. T is out with the hubby right now and I’m catching up on blogs with a warm cup of tea!

      2. Just need to drink that tea without guilt! Enjoy.

  8. I can never think of going to the movie all by myself though my sister did it once. When no one’s interested she pulls me along. But you did it. Great. Odyssey is really hyped. Nolan came to India for its premiere, I think, in Mumbai. Just a trivia. Jananayagam had a lot of release issues apart from the fact Vijay won the election by massive votes and that too as an independent candidate. But TN has a legacy of film stars becoming CMs. What’s the connection??

    1. Odyssey and Jananayagan were both released almost together! I had the choice to choose one! I ended up watching thr Odyssey since I like Greek Mythology 😊! Other than spending money for the tickets and the snacks both have nothing in common 😂! I needed that 3 hr break and enjoyed all alone!

      1. No…no…I was talking about the connection between neta and abhineta. BTW I second you on taking a break. It’s required… me time!

      2. Ha ha! We love our film stars 😃!
