It was an experience today!

I am afraid of snakes. I have blogged about it multiple times. So, when I saw a video of a person consuming snake wine, I really felt nauseous! There was a snake immersed in a liquid and the person tried taking a tiny sip from that jar 🤷‍♀️! Her face showed how horrible it was but she was experiencing an adventure!

I am not going to comment on people’s food habits! I am a vegetarian and I do not mind people having their own taste but this was something I would be not comfortable 😊! Yes, I am not even comfortable traveling to that place even for sightseeing!

I watch a lot of these travel videos when my son is on his stationary bike! These are non emotional neutral videos and can really help in brain regulation! So even when he is having a meltdown these travel videos help control emotions and help him calm down!

Anyhow, it took me a while to come out of that snake wine mode and ha, I felt I needed to have some therapy 😀!

Anyhow lesson learnt, I just have to scan the content before I watch something! Yes, the effect is still there as I am blogging about it!

Beautiful Cherry Plum Tree!

Yes, I do not have any snake pictures on my phone!

  2. I am not afraid of snakes but maybe its because I live on an island where there are none that are poisonous. But I often wonder how I would cope if I were to reside in a country where poisonous snakes share the lands and properties and can show up anywhere…hmm not really a comforting feeling…now that snake wine hmm well I have had a few sips in the early 90’s just for curiosity sake and umm…yeah…I believe having a sip now would only happen if a doctor recommended it based on factual research that it would cure my current medical conditions…

  3. Thank you for sharing this so honestly and thoughtfully Ganga . It’s completely understandable that seeing something you already have a deep fear of—especially in such an unexpected and visceral way—would leave you feeling nauseous and unsettled. You handled it with a lot of self-awareness: recognizing your limits, respecting others’ choices without judgment, and even finding a bit of humor in needing “therapy” afterward. That’s not easy to do when something really gets under your skin.

It’s also beautiful how you’ve connected your own sensory experience to your son’s needs—using calm, neutral travel videos to help him regulate during meltdowns shows how deeply attuned you are to what helps him feel safe. That same care and scanning for content ahead of time? That’s a kind of self-protection, and it’s a great lesson to take forward.

And no snake pictures on your phone? Honestly, that sounds like a very peaceful, healthy boundary. 😊 Sending you a gentle, snake-free comment and a wish for many calm, nausea-free videos ahead.

  4. This is such a genuine and relatable piece. I love how honestly you’ve shared your discomfort while still being respectful of others’ choices—it feels very balanced and real.

The way you describe your reaction is both vivid and a little humorous, which makes the experience easy to connect with. And the contrast between the unsettling moment and the calming role of travel videos, especially for your son, adds a beautiful, meaningful layer to the post.

  6. Snake wine is a nope for me.

When I was young and accompanied my mom on a business trip to Hong Kong, I got suckered into drinking snake soup. My mom didn’t want me to freak out in front of her acquaintances and told me it was chicken soup. Everything tastes like chicken after all!

  7. My little niece made a snake out of her slime set today, which was cute only. Not poisonous, not scary

  8. In Vietnam snake wine is very common. I have a dread of reptiles. Though I am a non vegetarian with a serious inclination towards vegetarian food I cannot imagine anyone having such beverages. Even being a non vegetarian my choices are very very limited.
