I am depressed?

What is a word you feel that too many people use?

After a month of no rains, woke up today to thunderstorms and lightning! Summer time rains feel good as the smell of the soil makes us feel things. For me it is nostalgic. I can associate with different things from my past.

We have sunrise at 6.20 am and sunset at 8.21 pm. Yes, the days are becoming shorter and a sense of sadness creeps in. I was just thinking what I should do when winter rolls in. I love December here with the festive mood. But when January sets in every one gets depressed. I was thinking maybe I should try to do something in January and February that has my adrenaline kicked in. I am not going for a beach vacation then but committing myself to something to make me happy getting up every day inspite of the weather being too cold!

Yes, depression or depressed is one word that too many people use nowadays. As a mother who has child with so many psychological issues and who makes a trip to the psychiatrist every three months I feel it is being over used.

Yes our brain does make us feel happy or sad due to multiple reasons but remember there are many things that can make you not feel down.

Anyhow checked the weather and it is going to rain all day today. Have to plan some indoor activities and get the ball rolling for my young man.

A few days back I was wearing a pair of glass bangles but I removed them as they were a bit loose. I put it on my center table. For me every time I look at that, it makes me happy and I haven’t removed them from that spot. So when I had my coffee or should I say cappuccino yesterday I had to take a picture. The cappuccino, the candle and the pair of bangles all give me happiness.

yes, depression is overused but depression is very real for some people and affects their daily life.

If you don’t me asking – and no worries if you don’t want to share – how do you find the counselling sessions for your son? I am looking into counselling services for him. He’s now 10 and I am mindful of his transition to adolescence will have its challenges and am considering counselling as a support mechanism for him.

    1. My son is on meds and that is why he needs to see a psychiatrist. We do not see a psychologist. Puberty is a whole different ball game and I think adulthood is much better. I think from what I read about your son, it should work. Nothing wrong about giving it a try.

      1. Thanks for the clarification! Our son is on medication too and is assessed through his developmental pediatrician. I’ll share any updates about the counselling, if we pursue it, in the future. 🙂

  10. It’s true that people use psychological words too loosely but that’s the nature of language, I suppose – it’s always shifting. I’m glad you could just give a little shrug and enjoy the simple things: it’s a healthy response. Thanks for the pleasant read!

    1. True is it not? I too use it unknowingly and it has become a very common usage but terms like anxiety ocd and depression are not to be used loosely since people with that problem face serious challenges.

      1. Agreed. People who use psychological terms like that just dilute the meaning and undermine the suffering of those with the actual conditions.
