Hinduism

What books do you want to read?

When I was little I remember my Grandmother holding big books and reading. She used to discuss small things with me from those books and never in my wildest imaginations did I think, I too would develop interest to the same.

The past decade I have learnt a lot about Hinduism and my religion. Thanks to so many classes that are conducted online. As I look further whatever I have learnt is just a drop in the bucket.

Is there a beginning or an end to learn, I do not think so. The works are not only in Sanskrit but in so many Indian languages. There are the original works, translations and transliterations. Yes, these are the books that I want to read.

Anyway to my own challenge of making dosas with my boy and it was my 9th day. We did Verumarisi Dosai and he was truly motivated. Side dish was spicy coconut powder. I remembered my maternal grandmother making the same every day for my grandfather for breakfast. As soon as my son finished grinding the batter, he rushed to take his bath! He loves this dosai that had a lot of coconut grinded along with the rice.

Every online class I attend is a privilege and I do not take it for granted. When my special boy was in his teens we underwent so many issues with him and I used to sit and pray for a solution. I didn’t know at that time, I would be given so many opportunities to know and learn more about the same. I finish off this blog with a quote from Adi Shankara’s Bhaja Govindam and I am truly grateful for the company I have in these classes and of course the knowledgeable teachers that are taking these classes. 🙏

  4. “The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” – Brian Herbert
But in BhajaGovindam, the saint says something different about learning.
    “भज गोविन्दं भज गोविन्दं
    गोविन्दं भज मूढ़मते।
    सम्प्राप्ते सन्निहिते काले
    नहि नहि रक्षति डुकृञ्करणे॥
    “Worship Govinda, worship Govinda,
O fool! Rules of Grammar will not save you
This verse, emphasizes the importance of focusing on the essence of life and spirituality rather than getting caught up in trivial matters, such as learning grammar, especially during the final moments of one’s life.
At the time of your death.”
    True, learning is continuous process.
    Thank you, Ganga, nice read.
At the end you made us feel hungry.
I learnt something about Verum Arasi Dosai and spicy coconut chutne adding the flavour.

    1. We really get up caught in our karma that our final moments get so scary! If we just ignore our karma and concentrate on the Almighty then again, it is a mess! But reading things like our scriptures and our itihAsAs really show us a path as what to do and when to do and what to concentrate and when to concentrate. Thanks for adding to my post! Anyhow my duty this week was a dosa camp for my special boy and I am
      glad many enjoyed it🙂!
