Black Friday and Cyber Monday have passed by and this year I successfully did not indulge in anything. I was at an outlet mall, I said no to everything my husband offered and then I told him with the impulse shopping I do here I can as well travel to see Grand Canyon!
Is it not true? How much we spend for things that we do not need. I grew in a Socialist India. So many things were luxury while we were growing up and imported items were so rare. I remember exchanging color markers with my brother during our recess/interval time for our Social class. The markers were used exclusively for us to color maps and for learning alone and not for “just fun”. But we have so many things in abundance now and that they arrive with a click of a button.
I remember writing something about Cyber Monday last year and let me tell you, I still have the crafts I purchased for my boy from last year! Until I finish those I am not going to invest in anything more!
This made me to search the internet and I was surprised how much us buying these unnecessary stuff could lead to climate change! https://news.climate.columbia.edu/2020/12/16/buying-stuff-drives-climate-change/
We all have our buying needs and even obsessions. We need to buy things for the economy to improve. I am not saying we all have to lock up ourselves as we did during the pandemic. It can be done in a much controlled manner. We can even help Small Business Saturday, https://www.sba.gov/about-sba/organization/sba-initiatives/small-business-saturday and enjoy a little bit more personal touch to our shopping. I am for moderation in anything we do.
Now that I have some extra cash from not spending maybe the Grand Canyon Trip looks real!
