Another 3 week project

Last Sunday ended my 3 week challenge of cooking with my boy every single day. You can read all about it here. It was fun with my boy.

October 14th is the beginning of the Hindu Festival Navaratri and that is when my spiritual and cultural fun begins. So the next three weeks are my prep work to exhibit my dolls. But we have an added challenge this year. I was too smart to move the heavy furniture away from my main exhibit room since my special boy has a ton of anxiety when stuff moves around, but that is all minor compared the work we are going to undertake.

Last March, due to a water issue, we had to replace our floorings. When our floorings were replaced, our walls started looking dirty and that is when I started pestering my husband to paint our house. Painting a house requires moving furniture and my husband was adamant that he will not do it. Handling the anxiety in our house was the reason he kept emphasizing. Summer rolled around, we traveled and my husband had a surgery. But a week back all of a sudden my husband decided that we can undertake the painting project.

Navaratri is the only time, I invite people into my home. I told him, why not do it before the festival so that our dolls can look bright in a newly painted room. Surprise, Surprise, we got a contractor who has promised to finish off the work before my festival. Keeping fingers crossed and touch wood, I hope everything goes smoothly. I do know this is going to confuse my boy so much, but I am already to handle this situation. I have nearly 12 years of dirt on my wall that I need clear off. So a little meltdown I am ready to handle. Anyhow me and my boy plan to eat out a bit more than normal, so it is a win win situation for both of us (him eating out and me not cooking much).

With my cooking project with my son, my Navaratri project that I was doing with him took a back seat. I was also procrastinating, thinking Navaratri was only in October. But with additional work, I have my hands full.

As I wrote last year, I usually do not decide on a theme. My theme falls into place once I place all of the work I do with my boy. I call it reverse engineering. You can read all about it clicking here. So, this year too, I do not have anything planned except a bunch of stuff and I do know they will fall into place with Mother Goddess blessings.

My son’s facilitator at his program also has been working hard with the clients on making a return gift for all those visiting our house. I am really excited about the gift and the effort it took to make them. We have had his friends drop by previous years to look at our doll display and we hope to have them too this year along with their staff. I plan to have an open house for the entire two weeks so more people can drop in and learn and enjoy my culture and heritage.

I also participate in a bunch of competitions for Navaratri Golu (Golu is unique to South India). Yes, this year too I plan to participate in those competitions. I love the adrenaline rush that happens inside me during that time. You can check out my last year’s Golu Video here and know why I do this every year.

That is all for this week’s Weekend Coffee Share with Natalie.

      1. That’s a beautiful way to be! I suppose my husband and I are similar. If there is a bug in our house, we’ll take him outside to be free. xo
