Written for Fandango’s Story Starter #96
This week’s Story Starter teaser is:
She searched her apartment frantically trying to find it, but it wasn’t there…
Rani was excited. She had moved all the way across the country for her first real job. She even got a new apartment, one that she is not going to share with a room mate. She dressed up in a new outfit and picked up a matching pair of shoes. Her bag was ready and she was about to leave the room when she noticed her apartment key was missing. She searched her apartment frantically trying to find it but it wasn’t there. The rental office forgot to give her a duplicate set of keys and she felt depressed all of a sudden. That is when she picked up her phone and decided to call her Mom. “I am late for my work and not able to find my key”. She screamed at her Mom, and did not even say a hello. That is when her Mom with all her calm and cool voice, comforted her and guided her so she could retrace her steps back. Rani found the key. She did not even say a Thank You, but just disconnected the phone and ran off to her new job.
It was not until later in the evening she was able to call her Mom back again, in an excitement mode and narrated her day’s experience and the excitement of her new job. She also told her Mom that she would be busy with training at her new work and would not be able to call her for the next few days.
But Rani’s Mom on the other end, just smiled and switched off her phone, happy that her little girl was now an independent woman.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers who do not expect anything from their kids, just happiness for their children, and being there for them whenever needed.
