Learning and Fasting

I received some good news in my email, that I passed my third level sanskrit exam conducted by Samskrita Bharathi USA. Last weekend, I received an email saying the results would be announced in a couple of days. The nervousness I experienced whenever I received an email alert over the next couple of days made me think I should not write anymore exams. I was also curious to know the result, so I kept checking the messages frequently even if I did not receive any notification. But finally the results did come, I did do decent and passed the exam. But I am pretty much sure I will not write anymore exam for the next one year. The last level Kovida is really hard and I need to put in more effort. I cannot do that with so many distractions going around me. I also have to train myself, that I am calm before the exam, during the exam and when I get the results. It is not worth loosing one’s mental and physical health over an examination. If you want to know more and learn sanskrit please check out here.

This week we decided to start intermittent fasting. I did loose lot of pounds the past two years, but this is to maintain what I have lost. My husband is joining me in this and it is basically for the general health. We have started with 12 hours and let us see where it takes our family.

My special one has been cooking Tuesdays and Thursdays now regularly with my prompt and help. I can now say with confidence that I have got that into our routine and we pretty much sure will not fall of this cooking wagon. I have two instant pots and he is getting fluent with both. Indian cooking has lot of spices and it is going to take a lot of time for him to be independent, but in due course he can learn that too . I am taking pictures and making into face book reels. This is really difficult. I salute all the you tubers who devote their time to it. But taking pictures and going back to reels make me remember the dishes I made with him. I also post on my status and I am glad many of my friends have supported me. This really is encouraging and helps me keep going.

March is here but we have had a mild winter. We did not clean snow at all this season. Will the weather remain the same or have some surprises. Will have to wait and see. Eagerly waiting to go to nurseries and garden centers to shop for seeds and plants.

  1. Intermittent fasting is good for overall health too. But needs discipline.

  4. Definitely notice the difference in sleep if we eat later than 6.30pm. Good luck.

  5. Hi Uma, it is so good you passed your exam. That is so hard when you have a young family. Fasting is something Catholics do for Lent, but the fasting is not just about food. Usually we give something we really like for the 40 days of Lent, like candy? But also fast from wasting too much time on social media, or too much TV, or using money you would have spent on lunch takeout and give it to a charity. Fasting is hard, do you have a set time to fast? Like if you did not eat anything after supper at 6 pm and didn’t eat again until breakfast the next morning, would that be a fast for you?

    1. Yes Kim, this is not religious fast but done for health purposes and to loose weight. Eat supper at 6 and have nothing umtil 6 am the next morning. You have begim like this and move to 16 hour window. It really helps in blood sugar control.

  7. Ah yes. Fasting.
It was a lot easier before I gave myself type 2 Diabetes. . .
It was my fault so I own it, but I do miss the days when I could miss 2-3 days of meals with little discomfort.
Welcome to our weekend coffee get-together.
