Bloganuary Day 21, Favorite author

Prompt for today:

Who is your favorite author?

My favorite author is Kalki Krishnamurthy. Kalki Krishnamurthy was a Tamil writer and an Indian independence activist. Kalki was his pen name and he started a weekly magazine in Tamil called Kalki. Kalki died in the fifties but I started reading the magazine only in the late eighties and early nineties. My grandmother introduced me to his novel which was at that time, being published weekly in the magazine. We used to tear the pages of the magazine and get it bounded up so that we could re read again as a whole book. His novels I have read are both historical fiction and social. I have enjoyed reading both genres.

I have all his books on my phone now, but I rarely find time to read nowadays but I do hope I will have more time to indulge back again.

One of his books Ponniyin Selvan was recently made into a movie (released in multiple Indian languages) and I give the director a big thumbs up for doing an amazing job bringing the characters I had imagined to life. There will definitely be critics, but for a Mom who is so busy, I would say the part one of the movie passed my expectations.

You can read more about him here.
