How was I raised?

What’s something you do completely differently from how you were raised?

Growing up in a conservative Hindu household in India in the eighties and a government that leaned more towards socialism under the then Indra Gandhi government I should say nothing is same 😀🤷‍♀️!

I don’t do anything different but I live in a world that is far more liberal and lifestyle more influenced by capitalists!

My brain is now so flexible! I enjoyed my then lifestyle and has accepted the now lifestyle! Add on an autistic adult son, nothing looks the same!

I am now thinking what is that I am doing the same as I did while growing up? Nothing much but remembering those old days with no handheld devices and instant messaging!

That said, I grew up with a set of religious and money values! I have held on to it! My faith in God and careful handling of money which were ingrained in me by my grandparents have stayed! Taking in the good from what they taught and lived has definitely helped me live my life!

A throwback Thursday! Me with my grandparents! I was lucky to grow up with them!

  1. This is so interesting to read. I’m so happy you kept the positive influences from your grandparents and left behind what no longer serves you in the world you live in now.

    1. Astrid thanks for getting the point and sharing it in your comments! The world chamges every minute! Somethings needs upgrades and somethings do not! Have to pick and choose carefully!

  2. What a beautiful blend of old values and a changing world some things evolve, but the values rooted in love stay with us. 🤍🦋🌼✨

  3. What a beautiful Throwback Thursday reflection! ❤️ Life may have changed dramatically—from growing up without smartphones and instant messaging to living in a much more liberal and fast-changing world—but the values we inherit from those who raised us can remain our most precious anchors.

  4. What a beautiful, heartfelt reflection. It takes real wisdom to hold onto your core values while embracing change so gracefully. Your grandparents clearly planted deep roots—faith and financial mindfulness are gifts that transcend any era or government. And raising an autistic son in a world that keeps shifting? That takes a flexibility and strength most people can’t imagine. You’re not just surviving change; you’re modeling how to grow through it with grace.

And that photo? Pure nostalgia gold. You were so lucky to have them, and they were clearly lucky to have you. Here’s to the old-school values that ground us—and the open minds that let us fly. 🙏✨
