Rarely I write two blog posts in a day. But, I stumbled upon a post that read, if you live in your past, you are depressed, if you live in your future, you are anxious and if you live in present, you are at peace.
It doesn’t mean the present doesn’t have any challenges. But it would help in tackling that problem much easier.
My son knows he would get a reward if certain activity is done. That is how he was trained to do tasks when he was little. Writing, reading, doing a puzzle and as he mastered, I remember his teacher offering him choices of a slinky or a raisin.
Fast forward so many years, he is anxious what reward he is going to get after a task. Now, as a parent I am undoing what he learnt. He picks up a snack from the vending machine before he starts an activity at the gym. Otherwise the entire session would be him anxiously waiting for that piece of candy. He made fifty baskets with ease and came out. He came home to have a cup of coffee like everyone! Yes, he was at peace and enjoying that particular task of making the baskets.
I still want him to move forward without that vending machine and candy. Just keeping my fingers crossed for the same.
I just wrote my son’s anxiety. I have to thank him for teaching me what anxiety is! I have to thank him for teaching me what peace is! It is a valuable lesson.
Meanwhile for the second post today 😊, it is just something that happened and I needed to make a journal entry.
