PanchAmrtam

List your top 5 favorite fruits.

This looks like a water cooler talk prompt! My favorite fruit is not going to change from one year to another! But a prompt that is non controversial but can keep the audience engaged.

I had a very close relationship with my paternal grandfather. I need to go to the bank sometime next week and every time I go I remember him training me. My Narayaneeyam class we have been talking about Vamana avataram and I can remember him telling the same story with so much emotion. Asuras teacher Shukracharya lost his one eye in the story and yesterday I could hear his voice as we were understanding the text.

So why did my grandfather’s memory show up again for this prompt? He would ask me to make panchamrtham. The fruit base is banana and top it off with milk, curd, ghee and honey. I never liked the milk and curd combination he suggested all the time but it did taste good as a prasadam or offering after the pooja was done.

My mom was usually busy with the main prasadam and I ended up making this easy one. Adding honey to any fruit is so tasty and I think that is where this panchamrtam found it’s place strong as an offering.

A walk down the memory lane!

A water container with cucumbers, strawberries and lemon! We humans are now loving anything healthy! 😀
