My socialization

How do you use social media?

When I got my facebook account it really opened my way into the outside world. I was taking care of my teen son who was having severe issues and a kindergartner! It was a big change for me getting connected with my old friends and family. Then it was followed by many support groups parents created for autism support. I then knew I was not alone in the world. I knew kids’ with same issues around the world. Be it Bangladesh, Japan or Italy. Parents connected and used social media.

Slowly it started getting overwhelming and I stopped checking messages. I then created another account. This was to post about my son’s progress with his music and cooking. My dad started liking those posts. It became a way of sharing my pictures with my family.

Now facebook is full of advertized material and I keep scrolling through funny reels! Nothing to do with my son🤣 or his progress.

Anyhow three weeks back I started the mission to post a cooking video of him and touchwood I have been doing diligently. I saw a person at the temple who said she loved his cooking and asked him if she can drop by to eat! Ha! It was a moment. I don’t get guests at all! I would love to have one but it is like a band aide (who is going to rip my inviting people fear) ! In the age of parties and inviting people over I would say the socialization part of my life is not much.

So with this I am bringing people into my kitchen and into my life! A conversation starter. Something for them to smile 😊! As I said, I am not going to monetize this. It is something fun I am going to do with a strict schedule.

I post my blog on Whatsapp status and facebook! I get a couple of likes or sometimes none. But I do know people read my blogs whenever they have time. They have commented on the same!

Yes, it is a space I connect with my friends and family.

Anyhow have a great week all!

The Special Olympics torch lit this Saturday! Will write about that day another time.

  1. This is such a heartfelt and honest reflection Ganga —thank you for sharing it. I love how you’ve turned Facebook from a place that once felt overwhelming into a intentional space for joy, connection, and celebrating your son’s talents. That moment at the temple sounds truly special, and it’s beautiful that his cooking is becoming a bridge for you both. You’re not just sharing videos; you’re inviting people into your world, one post at a time. Wishing you and your son many more smiles, kitchen adventures, and maybe even that guest dropping by for a meal 😊 Have a great week too!

  3. It’s so refreshing to read of others who like me, don’t seek to monetize everything they do. Money is nice, of course, but the satisfaction and fun from knowing people, especially from different parts of the world, read and comment on what you’re doing, is of far greater value. 🙂

    1. Oh for me I felt this was a conversation starter. For people to know my son. It was like winning a lottery 🙂!
