1. Can you remember your first date?
2. Did you belong to a youth club or similar in your teens?
3. Can you roller skate?
4. What did you have for breakfast this morning?
I chose to write for this prompt because the first question was fun.
I grew up in an Orthodox Hindu household. So yes, dating was out of question. My marriage was arranged! Nothing forced! I see so many movies about forced arranged marriages. Surely no drama like that. We were introduced by a mutual friend. Even after the official engagement my grandma was strict and did not let us date! Ha ha, talking on the phone was under her supervision. Remember those landlines which remained in the living room? My advantage my grandmother’s hearing was not that great.
We will be completing our thirty year marital bliss come this fall! Maybe we didn’t bore ourselves to death before marriage and that is why we stayed married 🙂! Yes, our first date was after our marriage and it was to a honeymoon destination!
Thanks to my grandma I completely missed my dating fun! In the initial years I was too angry with her! As time passed I had completely forgotten about that! So many things in life drop by making these look silly.
To answer the rest of the questions. Yes, there was a retired uncle in our neighborhood who had a chidren’s club. Had a lot of activities and picnics with the group.
No, I can’t roller skate. I am happy I can walk with balance without falling down after my ligament strain this past winter.
Morning breakfast was Uthappam. A rice and lentil pancake topped with onions and bell peppers with coconut chutney.
Gratitude:
I met my husband May 1996, and it has been a long 30-year journey. Our life has been a roller coaster. But he is the best dad my son could ever ask for!
