Compliments

What was the best compliment you’ve received?

WordPress has been giving me a compliment every day about my blogging streak. Glad that I am finding some time to blog and something to blog about.

That said, I am going to write about an incident my mom told me yesterday. It is about a compliment she received.

A few years ago my mom had gone to ship some items from India to me. She had a bag of homemade mango pickles. The pickles before international shipment are usually double packed at a specific location. While it was being packed a couple came with their package. They were watching the pickles getting packed and commented with each other how tasty the mango pickles looked. They further commented that it being homemade makes it even more tasty. The compliment was not done to my mom directly but with each other and they didn’t even notice her. My mom told me, that was the best compliment she had ever received.

Isn’t that interesting. When someone praises you, in person you always have a kind of nagging effect as to why they did it. But when an anonymous compliment is thrown in, it becomes a sure thing. Anyway my mouth is watering thinking about the pickle.

A lot of my Indian friends are celebrating New Year. So Happy Ugadi and Gudi Padwa to them all!

  3. This is such a warm and delightful piece 😊

The story of your mom’s mango pickle is simple, yet so beautifully meaningful—it perfectly captures how the most genuine compliments are often the unspoken ones. That quiet, unnoticed praise feels pure and unforgettable.

I also love the cultural touch—it adds flavor and warmth, just like the pickle itself! A lovely blend of nostalgia, emotion, and everyday joy 🌿

  8. The best compliments are often the unprompted ones, like the one your mom overheard. Those pickles sure do sound tasty indeed!
