The frozen lake!

Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes is almost completely frozen! Being the shallow one, the feat was accomplished after 30 years!

I had to see it and so we went in search of a beach! How long did we spend there? Just five minutes! My hands were frozen by the time I took my pictures and my young man was already searching for an icecream shop!

It was a quick day trip! But something memorable! Don’t judge me for my pictures since I didn’t have my gloves on!

Lake Erie Labor Day weekend!

I have to thank my dad for my lake obsession! When we took him to Niagara Falls twenty years ago he wanted to see Lake Erie. He asked me to make it my goal to see all of the five Great Lakes. That time, we were in Boston! But true to his words we moved to Pittsburgh making the goal much more possible ! We completed the quest of visiting all five lakes three years ago! But the closest Lake Erie still draws us all the time! Let it be fall, summer, spring or winter!

Our first day trip of 2026 was indeed cool or should I say cold 🥶!

The rolled ice cream at the mall! The after frozen lake treat!

it is hard to see where the shore ends and where the lake begins. Was it windy there? I never heard of rolled ice cream before. I hope you did not try to walk on the frozen lake like people in Pittsburgh did on the frozen river.

    1. The parking lot was covered in snow if that counted as walking on ice I would say yes we did walk for a good ten minutes 😀!

  4. Your son could’ve made snow cones with the snow. Gotta love the sweet tooth even in the arctic weather!

    1. I didn’t have any courage to stand more than ten minutes in that cold! Maybe next time I can plan a project in the snow! We safely moved indoors after our family photo shoot!

  6. Wow, that’s incredible! I’ve just come back from Gdańsk, Poland, where the Motława river has frozen over in Poland’s coldest winter for 20 years. It’s a fragile magic and reminder of the power Mother Nature wields. The blue skies are the perfect frame for the freeze!
