Planning ahead!

Today I was filling up my calendar. A good friend gave me a National Park Calendar and I am putting it to good use. I have committed to some classes on weekends and I really filled up until Memorial Day. My son’s program yellow book arrived with all the activities. I had missed a few last month so this time I am making sure I rsvp to them early! Yea, do not want to miss on some FOMO activities!

Okay it is a National Park Calendar but I am not yet comfortable planning any trips. Am I worried that I am going to jinx by planning early? Yes a part of me has that feeling. Then again none of the parks are driving distance. Yes, there are multiple sites that are which will be done on demand basis but catching a flight and visiting parks needs a different level of brain activity.

But we as a family have come up with one park for March but that too so many arguments are still going on!

The first park I visited was Acadia National Park in Maine. We need to visit that park again to get that passport stamping. It was more than 25 years ago we visited this park and my then three year old special one jumped into the swimming pool of our hotel. A moment we decided he needs to learn swimming. How far have we come now. Also the attractionswe saw then now require timed entry! Tourism has also blossomed! So will this be the park we visit again this year? It has been fifteen years since we left Boston. Maybe or maybe not! Time does fly.

Lot of parks require timed entry and are really crowded in summer. With my special young man I really need to do my research. So these things are making the process a bit too hard.

All said and done things look easy as we ease back into our routine! Touchwood the weather is good and most of the snow has melted! Enjoying my binge shows and living in the moment.

  1. This is such a warm, thoughtful reflection—full of planning, memory, and gentle honesty. I love how you balance excitement with caution, especially the way family, care, and lived experience shape every decision. The Acadia memory is especially touching; it shows how moments ripple forward and quietly change our lives. Your writing captures that beautiful in-between space of anticipation and presence—making plans while still choosing to live in the moment. Truly relatable and heartwarming.

  2. Write about your binge shows someday so that I can figure out if anything is left to be seen.

  3. What a beautiful reflection on time, growth, and the gentle art of planning—or sometimes, not planning just yet. It sounds like your calendar is filling with the best kind of intention: commitments to learning, family, and those special “FOMO” moments that bring joy.

It’s completely understandable to feel that mix of excitement and hesitation when dreaming about distant parks. Some trips feel like promises to the future, and it’s okay to hold them softly until you’re ready. The story of Acadia—your little one leaping into the pool, sparking a journey into swimming—is such a tender reminder of how moments become milestones. How far you’ve all come, indeed.

You’re navigating so thoughtfully—balancing your special young man’s needs, timed entries, and crowds—all while keeping adventure alive in your heart. Whether it’s Acadia again or somewhere new, what matters is the care you pour into each choice.

And how lovely to pause and appreciate the here and now: melting snow, cozy shows, and the slow return to routine. Here’s to living fully in the moment, while leaving just enough space in those calendar squares for spontaneity and wonder. You’re doing this life thing with so much heart Ganga . 💛

  4. Planning outdoor activities in the dead of winter is so motivating. I’m very lucky that I do the planning and the family just consents to it and shows up. 😂 Winter will be behind us in a few weeks!
