Friendly places

Do you have a favorite place you have visited? Where is it?

I was watching a video about Yosemite National Park’s half dome hike. I saw not one but two youtubers mention how friendly people were on the trail encouraging each other.

Half done climb is a vertical climb on a granite rock.

Even though I have never done any of these strenuous hike, my special son has been encouraged by people we meet on the trails even for a small distance. I could totally relate to the Youtubers.

Ha there is no encouragement or support when you are waiting in a long line to go up the Empire State building in New York. When your autistic son has a meltdown you have more eyes staring with a look 👀 “why are they here”?

Yes, many places I visit are isolated nowadays. Yea the parks are crowded but not like big cities and when we try to accomplish something without nasty looks it is more than satisfactory.

So to answer the prompt I would say all the trails we visited in 2025.

My son is slow on trails and downhills are the hardest and we keep chugging.

One of the most beautiful trail at Watkins Glen State Park. It was crowded but we survived.

Natural obstacle course at Smoky Mountains.

  1. What a heartfelt and honest reflection. Your words beautifully highlight the difference kindness can make — how a simple encouraging smile on a trail can feel more meaningful than a thousand indifferent faces in a crowded city. Your strength, patience, and the love you show for your son shine through every line. And choosing “all the trails of 2025” as your favorite place says so much about resilience, connection, and quiet victories. Truly inspiring.
