The story of my beans curry!

What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

Last year when the prompt turned up I just wrote that I do not know!

But today I can say with confidence my husband loves beans! Fresh green beans from the market. I got up today and he told me not to get irritated and that he had cut the beans for me to make curry 😐!

All summer it had been beans in our house and I was getting irritated that the dish became part of my family. I do not hate but felt like a guest who overstayed!

But when I looked at the prompt today I realized that it was my husband’s favorite. He seems to be enthusiastic around this vegetable and it looks like I make it really good. Otherwise he wouldn’t put all the effort to chop them into these tiny pieces.

So I submit for the above prompt a pan full of beans curry. Added along moong dal and fresh coconut along with some curry leaves for seasoning.

Bowing down to beans curry for being the winner. Maybe when the prompt turns next year I may have number two and three.

By the way you wouldn’t find this in an Indian restaurant. These are home cooked versions and not suitable for restaurant sale! Here is a link to a chef who learns Indian cooking from home cooks.

  3. What a delightful and heartfelt reflection! 🌿💚

Your story turns a simple vegetable into a symbol of love, routine, patience, and quiet devotion. The way you describe your husband’s enthusiasm — especially him chopping the beans into tiny pieces — is both endearing and telling. It shows how food becomes more than a meal; it becomes a shared language in a family.

Your realization that this humble beans curry has earned the top spot in your family’s favorites is beautiful. You’ve turned what once felt like an overstaying guest into a little culinary champion that carries warmth, familiarity, and care.
