The past weekend we were at Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Unlike the Grand Canyon of the west this was not formed by a mighty Colarado river but a creek. We thought we would be there to see fall colors but most of the leaves were down and we just had to enjoy barren trees. Mother Nature is beautiful all seasons. So I am not going to complain.
We enjoyed a 3 mile river walk along Susquehanna river trail. Yes, no fall colors sightings. All dried up leaves. This was at Williamsport PA.

Anyhow did get a quick history lesson about the lumbar merchants in that place. The trail we walked was once a rail track transporting lumber.

The drive from Williamsport to PA Grand Canyon was an hour but with no cell phone signal at most places we felt we were away from civilization 😊!
The overlook was convineant but taking pictures so inconvenient 😊!

So here is a video of the same! From my eyes to yours.
This was just a short walk from the parking lot. Then an arrow showed overlook trail 0.5 miles. Doesn’t that look like a short walk and so we embarked on that short hike. We walked down or should I say tiptoed down the hill with my son hugging his dad and me trying to remember some prayers and reached a beautiful spot.

Then I realized this hike a loop was about to go up and I had to walk up along the rim. I don’t usually post my picture on my blog but I am going to as I was not a happy camper at that point. Yes a fearful me posing for a picture.

This is called the Otter view and my legs were pretty shaken up at that point. My special young man doesn’t have any issues climbing up and he and his dad just breezed through up. Let me tell you, I had all the stamina to climb up but the drop down on my side was all that was scaring me. Ha, ha! Anyway I did it and I was just a good 15 minutes behind my family 😂! I took my own sweet time.

I had to come back and check what kind of trail it was and YES it was a moderate to difficult hike and YES I did it! Felt so proud doing the same.

My husband was not satisfied with the trail since it was short. So on our way back home we did stop at another trail and made a brisk mile walk on a flat surface. But the colors on that trail was much more vibrant and beautiful.
Lesson learnt. I have built up stamina to walk or climb or balance but I still have fear of heights. I do not know if I can or will overcome that fear. I am not going to obsess to get rid of it but will just go with the flow 😊!
Want to know about the park check the link above. There is a beautiful one mile trail that goes all the way down the canyon. There is also a 64 mile bike route that you can ride along the creek. If you are an avid hiker/biker those are your other options 😊.
