Self consciousness

Weekend we went to a buffet at an Indian restaurant . I told my husband that I would just have some chat items that are on the appetizer table and nothing more since I was not in the mood to eat other things.

As soon as we saw the buffet my husband commented see there is pani poori and bhel poori. Eat all you want.

Yes, my first plate was full of this and it tasted good too. I slowly got a second serving of the same but not much. Then I started feeling self conscious. What if people notice me eating the same stuff?

Truth be said, no one including the hotel staff notice what we are eating. Everyone is in their own world. Then I started looking around. A grandma was taking a picture of her granddaughter and a couple talking with each other. I didn’t notice what was in their plates at that point. My mind just made a mental observation. I didn’t even know what my husband ate that day.

Isn’t it surprising how self conscious we are? We have been raised in such a way as to what the society will think about us. Ha, the society doesn’t care and doesn’t have time to care. That is the truth.

Yet we are so self conscious in all our activities and we do things to satisfy the society. Yes, raising us to be self aware of ourselves helps us be more productive and maintain a good direction in life. But we take it to the next step and make a mess of our lives.

By the way, I just had two servings of the chat appetizer and moved on to the rice table. And no I didn’t have any sweet cravings that day. Just for your information if you do care about it 😊!

Who cares if we eat rice or noodles. It is a personal choice 😊

  1. Well said Ganga! 😄
Everyone’s so busy chasing their own buffet battles to notice what’s on another plate! Two rounds of chat is a| commitment to good taste! 👏

  2. Beginning a buffet with Pani Puri and Chat!
This is where we South Asians excel 😀
And worrying our whole self about what the world would say or even think, this is also embedded in our DNA, which I really hate.
Last but not least, I would mix up the rice and noddles to enjoy myself a nice meal, to fend off the worries of the world 🙂

  3. You’re so right…most times people are so absorbed in their own world, they don’t even notice us.

  4. Indian buffets are so delightful. I want a little bit of everything but like you, I always gravitate towards the same items. I wouldn’t worry about being self conscious. Everyone is there to get stuffed! 🤣
