We took our young man to his first dance. Yes, we did one during the pandemic. It was way less crowded. But this was the first he attended with a costume.
Can I shout from the rooftops that he did it. I think I can. Every mom wants her son to be educated, get married and have grandchildren. As parents of autistic children very much severe or non verbal on the spectrum sometimes a trip to the grocery store can be a success story and can bring happiness.
It took us so many years for our son to get adjusted to a hotel room or a long drive, so yes I blog about our travel so much. Unless you are in our shoes, you can’t understand certain meltdowns we have been through.
When my husband suggested we do a dance, I sent our rsvp. A crowded banquet hall with food, lights and music not a cup of tea for everyone. But we did it. He didn’t get his pizza but the mac and cheese and the cake made him want to dance and stay there for more than two hours among ghosts goblins and princes.
Will I shout out again if he does next year too? Yes of course I would. I deserve that.
By the way loved the cute couples who did the slow dance that was played in the end. It was romantic which me and my husband enjoyed and took a selfie. Meanwhile my young man enjoyed the song.
So what did he dress up? Yup he is averse to so many kinds of clothes but he loved being french fries.
