Every day is a festival

Happy Onam to all my friends and family. A harvest festival from Kerala.

For me the next couple of weeks mark the beginning of my Navaratri celebrations . I created an invite and slowly started sending them one by one. I have a whole lot of agendas planned in it to keep my young man engaged. In fact it was a very busy day yesterday that I didn’t have time to watch any of my Britbox shows. Maybe should unsubscribe for a month.

The next two weeks beginning Monday begins Mahalayapaksham. I gave my husband permission to perform tarpanam every single day. But he said, he didn’t want to burden me more. He would do things that are comfortable for our situation. Autism and Hindu rituals have a hard time getting along together. Those that are ancestral rituals, Mahayalayapaksham are even more tougher. Anyhow things happen not according to my plan but by plans made by the person above us.

Coming back to Navaratri I have added some more activities for my son and I think that is going to make it super interesting. Along with his Special Olympics, Pittsburgh Great Race and his baseball game I think September is going to be interesting.

Oh, I may take my young man to a Halloween dance ! I have to rsvp soon. Is Halloween that close? Oh boy, 2025 is winding down.

  1. This is such a heartfelt and beautifully written reflection. 🌸 The way you’ve woven together the spirit of Onam, the depth of Mahalayapaksham rituals, and the excitement of Navaratri celebrations shows such balance between tradition and modern life. 🙏 Your thoughtfulness in planning activities for your son — from rituals to sports to a possible Halloween dance — is so inspiring. It’s a reminder that love, adaptability, and faith can make life both meaningful and joyful. 💕 Truly admirable! 🌹✨
