Eggplant/brinjal ๐Ÿ†

This is a vegetable not favorable for many. In India we call it brinjal and in my home only the green variety was purchased. Oh growing up it was my favorite.

When I moved to the US, I learnt it as eggplant and we used to get the huge ones in the American grocery store. We bought it frequently since it was easy to cut and cooking time was very less.

Then after a few years we started buying them at the Indian store not so expensive but it started becoming a part of our diet. But then the problem arose between me and my husband since he liked to cut and cook it one way and me another way. You can make multiple things with it but we always had a mini argument on the day it was cooked ๐Ÿซข!

Then it slowly became not so frequent. My younger one is not a fan so it was easy to skip it instead of convincing multiple parties.

But this week, I purchased a whole lot of these small eggplants. There were multiple varieties (one was even called a graffiti eggplant) but I went and picked up the small one. It did not make my better half happy but we did bring it back home.

My Indian store brinjal

Yesterdayโ€™s curry was not touched by him but today I had a winner ๐Ÿฅ‡!

Yup kathirikkai and murungakkai kaara kuzhambu or I should say eggplant and drumstick spicy tangy sauce. Everyone ate it (and I hid the rest from my special man who can obsess over it).

The reason maybe I got a tamarind that was of good quality or was it the way I prepared it today. I really do not know.

This is definitely a comfort food for many in Tamilnadu, India and for a busy day with too many things in our mind it felt like a comfort food for our family.

By the way I have a few more left and it would find itโ€™s way in sambhar (our staple) amongst many other vegetables and may just dissolve in it. I donโ€™t think any of my family members would care about it.

My Kaara kuzhambu

There is not much respect or credit given to every day cooking. But I think they really play a huge role in a family from the mood to the health. We all had too many things on our mind today but that all changed when the first bite was taken.

      3. The one I shared is elaborate but I just add a prepared masala to the tamarind and vegetable mix and it is my own recipe ๐Ÿ˜Š. I have not tasted brinjal with yogurt. Have to search for it.

      4. Itโ€™s flavored yogurt with salt, pepper and chat masala, and fry thinly sliced eggplant fried in oil to the yogurt and if you like, put a tarka of zeera and round red chilis.

  3. Very nice Brinjal and Drumsticks sambar sissy.. So good ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’I also like it deep fried in oil like fritters.. Whenever we make pakoras with Ridge gourd then we ensure to make pakoras from brinjal too.. Both are soft and give unique aroma when we make pakoras or bajjis.. As you said the food will change the mindset and sometimes the mindset changes the taste to extraordinary.. Awesomeness๐Ÿ˜ for the delicious Sambar sissy ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒบ
