Idly

What foods would you like to make?

Food posts get a lot of views. I cook and I teach my young man to cook. So a different answer to the same prompt.😀

I love to cook one pot easy meals. My better half encourages since there is not much in the sink to clean at night 😀. But that can’t be happening every day and I find myself juggling multiple vessels.

Yesterday we harvested our zucchini and I wanted my young man to cook something with it. We made mor kuzhambhu, a yogurt based dish with coconut gravy and our home grown zucchini cooked in it. Yes cooking something home grown is tasty.

My young man is now fluent with the stove. The more reason I need to watch him.

Then there is one very famous South Indian breakfast “Idli”. Growing up I was never a fan of it. I took it for granted. A rice cake steamed and originally has its in Indonesia. The process of making the batter is long but these get cooked in 10 minutes. So it is one of my favorite to make dishes. We pack this for picnics and for travel. It has many side dishes but during travel it is just coated with spicy red chilly powder and that really flies off while you are sitting bored waiting for a plane or a train.

Anyway here are pictures of my special young man making the same.

Served with Sambhar and coconut chutney.

When I was a school going girl if my mom tells me it is “idli” for sn after school snack I would say same thing again? Ha now I crave for idlies. Unless the batter ferments perfectly the taste is gone. Anyhow our breakfast today morning is idli and it came out big and beautiful!

Today morning my work!
