Today I was in a great mood to cook. I even went grocery shopping (which I rarely do in the middle of the week), and got groceries to make a tasty meal. My family applauded my rasam (tomato and tamarind soup). After a week of travel home cooked food tastes so yummy and feels healthy.
We had to go to the mall in the evening. Sitting in the food court we noticed a health drinks shop which sold so many smoothies in various combinations. They were charging extra for protein boosters! I had to laugh at myself. Those were the same combos I made for my children when they were babies or got them from store (my kids were Gerber babies).
My younger one then walked to the shop and ordered a Zen Goodness. The most expensive one in the shop. For 10 dollars and tax me and my husband would have been angry at him but we were all curious what was in it and how it would taste. In fact the girl at the store even smiled at my younger one when he ordered it.
So what did it have? Apples, carrot, beets, lemon and ginger! How did it taste? Not bad! Worth it? Not going to buy it again 😀!
I am really surprised people would spend so much money on a drink. Do they think it is healthy? I read a news story a lady had to be to rushed to the ER since she overdosed on turmeric capsules for her arthritis. Indian cooking we use so much of turmeric but the recipe calls for a pinch of it. But when you start making your own recipes with just healthy stuff are we trying to over do it? Then adding a huge price tag looks as if they are healthy.
Anyhow my rasam recipe has been time tested by many generations and is good for digestion and to help fight the immune system. It was not expensive but a cheap item. I felt a sense of satisfaction when I served my family dinner. I felt that my rasam was Zen Goodness!😀
