A self help book

Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

I am not going to talk about a book from my childhood but I got myself a self help book when my kids were little.

With an autistic kid and a toddler my house was always a mess. Then I stumbled upon a website called flylady and she taught me cleaning and organizing.

I used to receive weekly emails amd yes I did not follow her verbatim but followed a couple of things here and there. When she published her book, I jumped into it and got it online. It is called Sink Reflections and boy that was our household guide.

The first and foremost rule to a clean house is an empty sink at night. I should thank my husband too since he approved that and I think for more than two decades we have never gone to bed with a sink full of dirty dishes.

Any activity done for 21 days continuously will become part of our daily routine she says and yes, I have seen and experienced it too.

As I spring clean my house this week, I remember all those little things I learnt from her book two decades ago. I think my mom too read the entire book when she visited us one time.

There are now many cleaning and organization tips floating on the web, but whatever I learnt from her has stuck with me and my family.

  1. The clean sink rule is a good one. I always feel better about the day if the kitchen is clean in the morning. Great tips.
