A hump day musing.

One of the things I say to myself is I should not throw a pity party. Yes, that party is not going to lead me anywhere. There are days when I am overwhelmed with things and would love a helping hand. That is when I realized, I am in control of my life and I can take a break and I can be pretty much handle myself.

Yesterday was one day I felt I needed a break. So off we went to the movies. My boy expects popcorn and soda and that is where compromise happens. We just skipped lunch and went to the movies. We got our popcorn bucket for the year and sat for the movie in the huge reclining chair. I splurged on movie nachos and my boy refused to share his popcorn with me. Yes, I needed to spend some money and provide my boy some junk but I got my much needed break.

Just a side note, we did go to the gym and burn our extra calories.

I have started looking ahead for some weekend trips this spring and summer. Over the years we have learnt my boy does great in Marriot chain hotels. Those with kitchen makes him more comfortable. It is a learning process that we family have undergone. He loves the drive and stay but it needs to be customized to his comfort. But it does come with some expense. These weekend trips give me a great deal of respite to come back and work with my boy again.

I have learnt I should empathize myself and find solutions to my problems instead of throwing myself a pity party.

I keep hearing in my head a Tamil proverb. தன்கையே தனக்கு உதவி. Self help is best help.

Something for hump day!

  1. Great thoughts for mums! Seems like you have really focused on maximizing your son’s comfort and have found some great ways to do that. PS What movie did you see?

i was going to ask that same question about the movie. I love going to the movies too. God helps those who help themselves. That is a saying like yours’ my Mom used to say. I tend to have pity parties sometimes😀
