Waiting for an opening day

What are your favorite sports to watch and play?

I went back to what I wrote for this prompt. It was flashback memories. My paternal grandfather was responsible for my interest in sports. I can’t forget the days I watched cricket amd learnt all about tennis from him.

Maybe that is why I pushed both my kids to sports? Playing a sport helps in coordination and boost self confidence.

We spend a good part of my time in our local gym with our boy and make him be in the equipments, walk the indoor walkway, play basketball and tread in the lazy river. We pay a subscription of 37 dollars for him for a month and I think that is one of the best investment we make every month!

Yes, kids sports are crazy! I have seen them on soccer fields and at swim meets! I remember my younger one getting upset over his event results and my husband getting angry for waking up at 5 in the morning for an event.

But I would like to express the same feelings of a chief guest at a Triathlon event my younger one attended many years ago. The prize distribution happened at 7.30 in the morning and he congratulated everyone on being there to participate in a sport that early on a Sunday morning instead of sleeping. Everyone were winners in life!

The past two decades I have played with my kids basketball and soccer! Watched swim and track meets! Cheered at baseball games for the special needs and enjoyed every moment of it.

I think I should thank my grandfather for the fun I have in these events.

I was nervously waiting for my younger one to finish his 5k during Thanksgiving race. He was aiming for a specific time and told me to expect him by that time. He has learnt it is not about competing but self improvement. A very important lesson when you do sports.

My special one’s miracle league baseball team, the Yankees! I am just waiting for the spring opening day!
