Madras Mixture

The fall leaves looks beautiful

My Deepavali Day 3 snack, is something colorful like the leaves around us, this time of the year.

A friend called and I said my kitchen looked like a laboratory after making this snack. An exploded lab maybe 😀! Yes, my son a genie, needs to be engaged and we decided on mixture for the last day! My husband had his laptop top on our dining table, as I started the preliminary work. I have to thank him, since it was not a one man job at all.

I deep fried rice flakes, roasted gram dal, peanuts and curry leaves on my own and then invited my boy for the next part of the snack.

The next part was making the oomapodi or bhujiya out of gram flour and oh boy this was sticky and my son needed support. My husband kept saying he needs to improve my boy’s shoulder strength. Something we need to work at the gym.

He loved mixing it with the rest of the ingredients. We did offer him a bowl of the bhujiya on it’s own but he was happy to mix the rest of it.

Me and my boy worked together to make something called boondhi. Now I have the proper utensil. But, I could not find it. The good thing in the process my husband cleaned up an entire shelf in the kitchen and we used a colander to achieve the same results.

The boondi, small tiny deep fried thingies finally got mixed up.

Then our last two ingredients were raisins and cashews deep fried in ghee or clarified butter. Not a compulsion but my boy loves raisins so we added that too.

People pick on cashews and peanuts from their mixture usually so we have to really mix them up.

Usually we do not offer already tasted food to God. But today, my boy put the mixture in front of our altar and bowed himself down.

Yes, thanking God and my Guru for giving us the guidance as we did three days of Deepavali bakshanam.

Today walk was just a mile but the next few days we have beautiful weather to burn all our calories.
