Kanchipuram, an ancient temple town nearly 50 miles from my parents’ place was my go to destination today.
As a girl growing up, I have been here multiple times for visiting the famous temples and to Kanchi Mutt. I remember having the blessings of Mahaperiyava with my parents. The last time I visited was to purchase silk sarees for my marriage. I have visited with my family and with a group from our neighborhood. All these incidents were coming to me as flash back today as I made my first trip to Kanchipuram with my husband and my special boy.
Yes, this trip was completely different from all my past ones. My boy does have that effect. This is a much shorter trip than the ones we took the past week, but we knew he would enjoy the atmosphere.
I told my husband that we were tourists in the town and all our spiritual thoughts need to be put in the backburner. (Yet, I was a bit upset when I left Kamakshi Temple. I really wanted to spend more time there. Maybe next time).

We visited three temples built nearly 1500 years ago. These huge temples have big spiritual and religious significance but the architecture is beyond comprehension.
Circumbulation of the temple is a very important part of our tradition and I was glad my boy could perform this without his shoes. It was burning hot and yet we accomplished! Two temples did make him wear a dhoti! Yes, that was a distraction for us but he managed it. But they did give us some concession by making us use a VIP line to get out of a big line!
Kanchipuram is famous for silk sarees! I had to visit one. Yes, it was marketed all over. My aunt recommended me one. The air conditioned five story huge store/godown pulled us inside. Each customer had nearly three sales girl working for them as they bought out different kinds of silk sarees. The main sales girl explained a lot about the different varieties. I think I gained some knowledge about the different kinds😃. They were good sales girls. I did pick one.

So what was in for my boy? The food he had all day was amazing. Remember he had walked a lot all through the morning and I would say, he earned it!

Temple visits were hard. Now we have progressed so much! I am grateful for that.🙏
