A test of patience

Monday is Krishna Jayanthi or should I say our Krishna’s Birthday. A function celebrated in India with so many sweets and savouries.

Unlike the festival of Diwali, it is very important we do not taste these different snacks before we offer to God. The celebrations are usually late evening and hours would have passed after we have finished making the snack. So every year, with a boy who is a foodie it has been a constant struggle saving the same from him eating.

This year however I decided that I would just make one sweet on the day of birthday and make the savory Friday itself.

But I did make myself a condition that me or my boy would not taste it until we finish the whole thing. I should say it was a test for my boy’s patience.

The snack press did give me a lot of trouble and I thought maybe I should relax my own condition and we started making the same. It is always tempting to taste a snack as it comes out of hot oil!

But as the task progressed, I noticed he was becoming patient. We bought the first batch of snack and offered it to our Baby Krishna. Then, it was his brother’s and dad’s turn to have the same. Unlike the Lord my younger one and my husband were munching it. My boy kept making the snack.

It wasn’t until a good 30 minutes later was he able to have a bowl of the same. But me, I kept tasting it to see if it wanted more salt or spice (of course after offering to baby Krishna but before my boy ate). So, my boy passed the test and I failed.

By the way any spicy snack should be followed by a hot cup of coffee and I had a cup of cappuccino! Not feeling guilty of failing the test 😃!

i don’t know what that snack is made of but it looks good. Ani was very patient while waiting his turn to have the snack. I would have trouble not tasting. That’s why I don’t like making Christmas cookies. Once I start tasting chocolate chip cookie dough, it is addictive and I can’t stop.
