In today’s constantly connected world, finding solitude has become a lost art. But spending time on your own gives you the chance to revitalize your body and your mind at the same time. Being by yourself with no distractions gives you the chance to clear your mind, focus, and think more clearly. It also gives your body permission to slow down and rest. For this activity, carve out 3-5 hours just for yourself. If possible, try to unplug from your cell phone, and do what you can to stay silent during this time. You can spend the time doing anything that you find restful—walk in nature, read a book, listen to music, even practice yoga. The bottom line is to take some time JUST FOR YOU!! And remember to bring your journal so you can write and reflect while you’re on your own.
Last week, I wrote about an assignment that I had to do for my mindfulness course online. The assignment is given above. So what did I do? How did I find the time?
I am a mom with a special needs adult son. Apart from my husband and my younger boy, I do not have much help. I did not want to request a special time for me since I did not want to plan for my self care time. So it was really interesting how things turned out.
Last Saturday afternoon my husband volunteered to take my son out to the gym. In fact he told me, he was going to be out for three hours with him. All of a sudden I had a silent house. I picked up a meditation video from my course and settled with it. After the meditation exercise, I remembered I had a henna/mehandi cone with me😊. Time flies when you create art. I dozed off a few minutes with the henna on. The I walked around my garden. My husband has been taking care of the vegetable patch. But I took pleasure in harvesting some beans and tomatoes. By the time it was done, my hena had dries and I had to carefully scrape it off.

Wow, I enjoyed this activity. It was an afternoon and I was totally relaxed. It brought childhood memories. I was doing something that I really loved. I was concentrated on that activity. The best of all, I can still enjoy it. It has been three days since I wore it!
Yes, a great activity that I did for myself. An absolute self care task😊. Something I did not plan.
