Teaching moment

We went grocery shopping at an Indian store yesterday. Taking my special boy means it is a bull in a china shop experience. But he is very smart now. He searches for all the junk and packaged material, and they are displayed brightly.

We picked up a few pieces of junk, and I started picking up my groceries. While we were near the spice aisle, I asked him to pick up turmeric. Turmeric is something we use in every recipe. Yes, if we are cooking something Indian, it is an essential ingredient. I think it was the mother or the teacher in me who asked him to do that. He picked up the red chilly powder and walked over to pick up the turmeric. Yes, it was a milestone moment for us. I teach him a lot of cooking, and more than cooking, I ask for his help when I am cooking too. So shopping for the ingredient can also be added to his list of tasks.

Every time I feel proud of myself as a mom, I see something in nature that makes me want to bow down. Yesterday, the killdeer bird was nesting, and she made sure I was nowhere near her eggs. Check her out!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “recipe.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy

  2. I’ve never made any Indian recipes but I try and use turmeric as much as I can because of its health properties. Just a 1/4 teaspoon.

    1. Adding turmeric to the veggies while cooking is what we do.
