Rhode Island in the North East and Reno in the South West

My dad came to help me out one winter. It was really cold, and we did not have many options to take him anywhere. We really had to choose indoor places, and one place that we visited was The Breakers. The Breakers, a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, belonged to the Vanderbilt family. The mansion was their summer cottage.

I searched all my albums for any pictures that we could have taken there. But I think photography must have been prohibited inside the mansion. I could not find any pictures from the trip.

We visited Newport again, but this time we took a boat trip to look at the mansions along the seashore. People did live their lives in a grand way.

A boat trip is much easier than visiting a museum or a mansion! You don’t need to be quiet.

Providence, Rhode Island, is close to us, and we have been to their zoo a couple of times.

These are all the places we have traveled in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the US.

Now let me talk about the biggest little city in the world. Reno, in Nevada, holds that title. When we traveled to Lake Tahoe, we spent the night in Reno. My parents were with us. That was to our advantage. Me and my husband do not gamble, but we left our kids with our parents and went out to check out the casinos. My kids were jetlagged and were fast asleep, and that helped us a bit, I think. My husband even gave me ten or twenty dollars. We gambled until we lost. I think that was the first and last of our gambling escapades. By the way, my parents did not have any interest in visiting the casinos. They were happy to be in bed. We achieved the target of visiting one more state, Nevada, with that trip.

That is it for today’s challenge for the letter “R.” I have talked about two small places with their own significance.

So for A to Z challenge,

R is for Reno and Rhode Island.

The A-Z Challenge takes a break on Sunday. I will meet you with the letter S on Monday. Meanwhile, if you have missed any of my posts in this challenge, just visit my home page and check them out.
