I wrote a blog two years ago saying how hard it is to celebrate a festival that I am doing today because of my son’s obsession towards jaggery.
Jaggery
Me and my husband had decided not to buy any jaggery at all because of so many health issues for my boy and i fact I gave up on making anything today.
Around 5 pm I decided why not replace the jaggery with organic cane brown sugar. I was really pessimistic about the whole ordeal , but as the sugar became syrup I started having some confidence. Then the end product called nombu adai did turn up well. My son came and asked me for this sweet. But he was not sure if it was a real deal. I told him he would get after bath and he just moved away completely forgetting about it. It wasn’t until 8.30 pm, I offered prayers and gave my son the plate. He picked up the brown sweet, took a tiny bite and returned the whole plate back to us. Not so sweet as the real ones ,maybe🤷♀️!
Now it was our turn. I was curious as this is one of our favorites and this was a last minute decision to make out of raw organic brown sugar so took up on a piece and gave it a bite. Yummy, it tasted close to one made with jaggery. I would say this opens up more options for me to make sweets without the fear my boy would obsess over. So a successful day!
