An English Tea Party

My son’s program has a Home in the Community called Connecting Me Home. I have written about it a couple of times of the activities we have done there.

I tell myself I need to take my boy there often but it get missed due to so many reasons. I take my husband for moral support since we are still getting used to this place. So it is even more complicated to find a suitable time. But this week theme was “English Tea Party” and my mind was all set to be there!

English Tea Party is all about etiquette and my boy wore a shirt with collars and poured the Tea for me and my husband. We had cucumber sandwiches along with it.

This is the first time we are using the kitchen and I was nervous. My boy helps to peel cucumbers at home and he was able to peel them there and we used the Keurig Coffee Maker for hot water. We didn’t use the stove but this is first of him cooking some place else than home. So it is something new for us and for him too.

chopping cucumbers
Adding hot water
stirring sugar
The table is set

So, how did it taste. It was yummy. But my boy is an all American guy. He wanted the bread to be grilled or toasted. He wanted to add barbeque sauce and relish on top and the tea cups were small. We restricted him from adding any of the ingredients and stuck to cream cheese, salt, pepper and cucumber and when he finished the tea, he got up picked up a big mug and made himself a hot chocolate.

I do not know how many remember an episode in Everybody Loves Raymond, Raymond’s mother in law plans a tea party for her girl. But her daughter, Debra does not want one. I really had craved to have one when I watched that episode that time and I got my wish today.
