A popcorn skin stuck in the back of my tooth a few days back. That is when I remembered a Tamil proverb, பல் வலியும் தலை வலியும் தனக்கு வந்தா தான் தெரியும். Tooth pain and head ache need to be experienced.
It all started with me trying to poke my tooth. Initially I was very careful. My efforts were very less and I was begging for the skin to come out on it’s own. Then my tongue started working on the same and I was getting irritated since I could not concentrate on anything.
Twenty four hours passed and I could feel it but it was lodged strong and so I decided to attack with a tooth pick. Yes, the multiple times brushing my teeth did not help me. Finally, a tooth pick won the war and the foreign object left my tooth. By that time, my gums were in so much pain. In fact it was more painful now than before. I was getting worried and I told my husband that we had to stop at the pharmacy to pick up something over the counter for the same. It was only then my husband knew about the struggle I had been undergoing the past few days.
Today morning, I was over joyed since, the medicine worked overnight and I had zero pain and all day today I was very careful. I ate food that were soft and treated myself as if my mouth had undergone a surgery. Then came my free time or the binge watching time. That is when the popcorn packet started calling me. I made myself a cup of coffee and sat down to watch the show. (To distract my brain from the popcorn). It was a three part show and as I entered the second part, I lost my control and picked up the packet. Then began the tough part. I started chewing on the opposite side of my mouth and by the time, the packet was done my right cheek was in so much of pain. In fact, I did not even enjoy the show and I did not know why I was so obsessed to pick the packet and eat it. I was more than relaxed when the packet was empty.
I have now made up my mind. No more popcorn. I have learnt my lesson. I am not going to yield to my temptations. It is not good for my well being.
Who am I kidding? It is going to be hard to let go of the calorie free snack. Maybe I need to start searching for alternative snacks! 🤷♀️
