How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?
Yesterday I wrote a blog saying I got new shoes. Today I wore them. All day today we were out and my boy kept complaining my shoe lace was off 😀!
It is really interesting since when we he was little we worked with his Occupational Therapist so he could learn to tie shoes. We thought it was a major life skill and his IEP for many years had one. This was right after he came out of shoes that had velcro sticker. Did he learn and master it? On paper he definitely was able to do it. He knew the steps and executed but they were not tight enough to stay tied for a long time. After some time we let it go. His shoe laces once tied by us never came off. He just slipped in and off the shoes and the problem was solved. If they are off he asks for help immediately and I would say that in itself a great skill.
So today when he was just asking me to tie my shoes I just had to laugh! I do not know why he kept reminding me but all the years of his therapy taught him those need to be tied. When the goal was written many many years ago it didn’t have a line saying, learning to watch if other person’s shoe is untied.
Anyhow perspectives change as years pass by. On the other hand I am really happy I am able to bend down to tie my shoes unlike many people who have bad back.
Oh, I also noticed today at our Temple, no one unties their laces and removes their shoes. When we enter our Temple there is a shoe rack and everyone removes their shoes. I just observed the rack and found all the shoes were tied.🤷♀️
