Happy Republic Day to all my Indian family and friends. My Dad took upon himself as a task to make us watch Republic Day Parade while we were growing up. He also made sure we watched Beating Retreat and Tattoo ceremony at Gateway of India. Beating retreat in India officially denotes the end of Republic Day festivities. I still get goosebumps when I watch pictures shared with me on social as I get up in the morning.

Anyhow traditions change as generations pass. I celebrate all Hindu festivals with pomp and I have blogged about it and WordPress gave a similar prompt and here is the link to it. https://specialmomsblog.mom/2023/08/02/festivities/. Please take a minute and just check out the pictures, they are colorful.
Anyhow in my house we celebrate all of our Birthdays that is customized for my Special One. We celebrate both using the English Calendar and our Indian Tamil Calendar. Overall we get to celebrate eight birthdays in total. For English Calendar birthdays it is Pizza and Cake while Tamil Calendar is a trip to our Temple and dinner at an Indian Restaurant. This is truly a family affair, just us four and something my special boy looks forward to. We go to the party shop, pick up decorations, order a cake at the grocery store. For many years, there was definitely a theme just as my boys grew older, it changed to us visiting some place or just having a picnic party.
Now, my boy is older and can tolerate parties and crowds, we still keep this as a family affair, something that is private and a tradition I intend to keep doing. A lot of my Navaratri Golu dolls are cake toppers that I collected when they were kids. The memories still stay😊.

Okay, it was our 8th day of Dosa making yesterday. This was a tough day, since my special one’s sleep got distracted and I was not myself. So we ended up mixing leftover batters from various day dosas with wheat flour. I can say, this was my own recipe and I can patent it. The side dish to it was mint chutney which I had planned a long time back. It looks similar to cilantro or coriander chutney I made a day before but the taste is different and for the tangy taste, we squeezed lemon. Just two more days for my challenge to end and my boy has made anywhere between 60 to 70 dosas.

Anyhow this is a topic I can keep writing all day and I am just running out of time. It is Australia Day at my son’s program and that is what we are going to do. See you all tomorrow! 🙏
