What is your favorite animal?
It is harvest festival in my home state Tamil Nadu, India. Worshipping Surya or the Sun God is the main part of the festival. But one day is dedicated to thanking the cows and the bulls. It is called Maatu Pongal, மாட்டு பொங்கல்.
I grew up with cats, infact one kitty would spend hours on my lap.
But today I thought I would just write about cows. My maternal grandparents had a cow. I went nowhere near it but she was part of our family. When she had a baby, we would get letters informing the same and my brother used to suggest names for her calf.
We had a milk man in our street corner and most of his cows and buffaloes were milked in front of our house. I still remember the old man.
So during the festival of Maatu Pongal, the cows would be dressed up and got to our houses and we used to worship her.
I never petted a cow like a cat but always admired her. That maybe the reason I take my son to the petting zoos to feed farm animals. We have zoo that has Indian breed cows instead of Jersey cows and it always draws excitement between me and my husband.
My phone has lot of cow pictures and I am just going to share them, just to show my love towards the animal.

Two years back my shloka group after completing Devi Mahatmyam did Chandi Homam. As a part of the ritual, Go Pooja or Worship of Cow was done.

I may never own a pet, but we have done multiple sponsorships to feed cows and we didn’t do because it was ritualistic. We did it because we admired this animal.
It is day 15 of Bloganuary Challenge and I have breezed through it. That is what I think.😀 I have more cows 🐄 but I am going to stop here! Anyway Bloganuary really made me think and finally made me realize my favorite animal!
