My brother sends me videos or links for me to read, so I can blog about them. He keeps commenting for my “Vetti Sister”. If you know Tamil, you would have understood it. But, if you do not, a person who has more than enough time in her hand! My brother has lately been jealous about me sending my younger boy off to college and that I do not have an alarm to get up or a lunch or breakfast to get ready. He feels that is one huge thing parents do for their school going children and hence the specific word “vetti”. I would say, it also has opened up lot of time with no drop offs and pick ups and not waiting in the parking lot in hot, cold and rainy weather.
So, today’s video, led us to discuss something and our discussion became about the curry smell inside our Indian houses and how to get rid of them. I then messaged him, this would be my project the next couple of months. I am going to remove the particular odor. We love our cooking but the curry, the turmeric and oil mix in a closed space during winter does not allow the smell to leave the house. I remember when my Mom came to help for my delivery, she was cooking non stop in our closed apartment. My Dad used to tease her, that the smell is reaching far away parking lots!
So, yes all day today I was browsing my phone for ways to deal with the smell. I think this is going to be a challenge since there is no one easy solution. I have read up on a few and even saw a professional cleaning up an apartment to get rid of the smell. My brother says I do have some extra time on hand and maybe this is a good way I can spend it. It not only keeps the house clean but make it smell good too. Let me see. But if I do go on salads and smoothies for our entire family, that is totally a different story.
Anyhow please do not think wrong about my brother, he knows the ton of work and caregiving I do with my special boy and he loves to tease me and the sibling rivalry is always for life.
Today we had funeral for Rosalynn Carter and I was pleasantly surprised to know that Rosalynn Carter Institute of Caregivers, was founded by the former First Lady Rosalynn Carter in 1987. Mrs. Carter, deeply moved by her own experiences in caregiving, established the institute with a mission to promote the health, strength, and resilience of caregivers at every stage of their journey. November is National Caregiver month and I bow to Mrs. Carter for starting the same. This is something I learnt today and am sad, it had to be known to me only after her death.
