It’s Deepavali Weekend

It’s Deepavali Weekend and that is what I should say. Getting up early in the morning and have an oil massage bath, wearing new clothes amd eating snack and savouries is our Diwali routine when I growing up in India.

Coming here unless it was on a weekend nothing big materialized. The add on cold weather would just bring on flu symptoms and it is a watered down festivity. So I always say, if you have to celebrate Diwali in authentic manner you should be in India.

But, it has been bit more confusing this year. India celebrations are on November 12th. I checked with my local temple calendar and it said November 12th. Then today morning I called my brother who was in new clothes getting ready for Temple and asked me why I was not celebrating Diwali. It seems Toronto Temples are celebrating on the 11th! Then I noticed a few more people celebrating the same today!

Okay, if you are happy and having a good time, day, date and time doesn’t matter! It is a celebration of good over evil and that can happen anytime.

Anyhow, my boy has been cooking all eweek making sweets and savouries! Learning to cook is easy, but controlling himself around food is hard! Oh boy that is what we have been working on.

We made small quantities and he has become more independent with tasks and very careful around fire! The biggest task was to first share the food with his Dad, before he had his share! I hope he gets that soon! If he needs to cater in the future, which seems a very profitable business, he needs to learn that before we put out a banner!

But the most fun part was today evening. Pittsburgh Tamil Sangam had organized a live light music concert lead by a famous singer Mano from India. The show was full of 80s and 90s movie songs and I think the average age to enjoy the same has to be 45. But it was enjoyed by all!

Unlike my second kid, my special one has been exposed to our movie songs more and we were pretty sure he was going to have a blast. He did not disappoint us! My second one passed on the event and should have been jealous as he watched all the videos of his brother dancing, which I kept sharing as I recorded 😃! Four hours in the concert flew like few minutes! I am really grateful to my good friend of Pittsburgh Tamil Sangam who took us backstage and got a picture taken with the singer. The icing on the cake.

Enjoyed every bit

Anyway Happy Diwali to All my Indian friends who are celebrating this festival all weekend!
