A consumer world

What would you do if you lost all your possessions?

We got this indoor basketball hoop many years ago as a Christmas gift for our boys. They have out grown and do not play with it. Yet, we are having a hard time letting it go. It would be wonderful to get that space back.

Letting go of everything and merging one with Supreme is what my religion says. That is called self liberation, mukti or moksha. Even today morning I listened to lectures stating the same but my mind is not yet ready to give up certain things. Attaining self liberation means there is no birth again. It is supposed to be the best of all situations and that is what I learn in all the classes that I have enrolled into!!!!

I got some pots inside the house to safeguard them against harsh winter. I counted them. There were five. It started with one couple of years ago and it has kept growing. My husband commented about a sage and we were becoming slowly like him. The story being the sage was supposed to get liberation and that he got himself attached to a deer. He had to take three more births to get liberation. We were not plant people but we just started getting attached to these plants. But unlike the sage we have so many possessions that we are adding to our list.

So what happens when we loose our posessions? Ha Ha, We are going to be in a shock and depression. We may have insured some and fight with the insurance company. Try to replace them as fast as possible. Okay, the list is endless. What if we just said, “Oh God has given the perfect opportunity to self realize ourselves and it is a perfect time to move to Vanaprastha or go and live in a forest and lead an ascetic life.” Oh, No way we are going to do that. In fact if we do that people may just call us irresponsible.

The hard fact being we have to reduce the possessions as we age. The world has become a consumer market and I do not think that is going to happen. So, we are just going to replace the lost posessions with new ones on sale and boast to others how cheap we got them all!!!😊
