Life without computers 🤷‍♀️

Your life without a computer: what does it look like?

My husband is a software professional and so for more than a quarter century it has been our bread and butter. He kept saying if he didn’t get this job would have settled being a college lecturer. So that would be good too.

Anyhow, my life revolves around a computer/ipad/iphone. But just for the social part of it. I have enrolled in multiple classes and before pandemic most or almost all were in person. Maybe I will be going for in person and those that are far away or not suitable for my time of day, I would just not join.

I work with my special boy and most of his activities do not involve a computer. We do a lot of eye hand coordination activities and games. So it doesn’t need a computer. I may not shop online but buy stuff from stores which would stop impulse buying. My son listens to music on his ipad. But before that he used to listen to them on his CDs. I used to burn CDs for him but they were a bit cumbersome. Yup, I am fine with that too. We needed to buy batteries for his CD player. That costed money.

I talked to my parents on phone when I came to this country. I think this is what I would miss the most. Seeing people far away. But even now, I do not use much of video call, just audio. I used to take prints of my kids’ pictures amd mail to them. I think that really thrilled them. So, that too is an option without a computer.😊

Okay, so I am from a generation that lived without computers for many years. I should say I can live without one. But that is not possible. It is really hard. My Grandma used to say she lived without electricity for many years. But when we had power failure in our house, she would then say “How did I survive without one when I was young”.

October 6th is my Grandfather’s birthday. He would have been 108 years old. He loved sports and I remember watching a lot of cricket and tennis with him. I just asked my husband to subscribe for World Cup Cricket. It has been years since I saw a full match. Let me see if I have patience to watch. 😊

  1. It is hard to imagine life now without computers and mobile phones are fast becoming a necessity but some things I prefer to do “the old way”. I read a lot of books…paper ones. 🙂 I prefer talking to people face to face rather than on the phone but I do love being able to find videos showing how to do things online or quickly finding word meanings on my phone if I’m reading and come across a word I don’t know.
When we’re traveling if something bad happens and we need help out in the middle of nowhere with no phone coverage we can use a satellite service to get help, now to me that’s mind blowing.

    1. Just like any kind of invention, it has it’s good and bad and how we use it makes a world of difference.
