What brings you peace?
Sunday night, after my family went to bed I sat and switched on a mindfulness music that my Fitbit app provides for free. Sometimes it would just be music, or sound of nature or a person giving some motivational talk. That day, it was a five minute positivity talk and just as one minute was coming to an end, I remembered that our picnic basket full of dirty boxes was still in our van. My dishwasher was already on and my son’s lunch box for the next day was in the van inside the picnic basket. My son is very particular about his lunch box and so the next four minutes of the talk my mind was just wandering what I should do. As soon as the 5 minute session got over, I picked up the basket opened up the dishwasher and loaded my son’s box. Oh! What a relief. If I had forgotten, I would have just remembered at 9.45 am the next day when I pack the lunch for him and it would have been an utter chaos.
Running a household is like running an organization. Things need to run smoothly otherwise there would be chaos. Even if I did not have an autistic son who has severe OCD, I still need to run things on time. It is like a 24 hour job. I have a husband who shares work with me, yet the planning that involves for day to day activity is huge.
So, I love the vacations we take. That is when I can completely unwind myself of my household duties. I love that there is free coffee in the hotel and I do not need to worry for my family’s breakfast. I am really glad we were able to take a couple of them this year and I really understood the need to have one.
Yes, a weekend with no routines and eating out would satisfy the same but I feel as if I am still at work when I am home.
I was just curious as I finished writing this and googled “how to bring peace in life”?
This is what I found.
- Accept what you can’t change or control. You can’t actually control your mind and simply tell it, “Be more peaceful” — just as you can’t control life.
- Practice forgiveness. …
- Practice mindfulness meditation. …
- Make time for yourself. …
- Keep a journal. …
- Get back to nature.
Okay, I will get my peace listening to the mindfulness meditation, writing my blog forgiving myself and others on a beach or a resort.
