A bike ride

For the past year, My younger one kept saying he wanted to bike on the Great Allegheny Passageway. The 300 mile trail runs between Pittsburgh and Washington DC. His goal was to bike from Mckeesport to Ohiopyle a distance of 60 miles.

After many many hiccups, he was able to accomplish his goal today.

He left Mckeesport
West Newton, 18 miles
Connellsville , 44 miles completed

We asked him at this point if he wanted to continue and he said he wanted and the journey ended at Ohiopyle.

Ohiopyle , his tracker said 64 miles

This was a trip he planned on his own. He gave us the directions as to where we need to meet him and he asked for specific sandwiches so he will not be hungry on the trip. In fact he talked to his Dad’s doctor so his Dad can be on the trip. The last leg he slowed himself because of the elevation.

This was a long time plan for him, but for us we hadn’t taken his thoughts seriously, so I didn’t have time to be nervous. I also didn’t have time to google search and know all the bad things that can happen. Anyhow we left home at 6.40 am in the morning and when he reached the destination at 12.00 Noon, he said “I am so hungry “😀.

Anyhow, we enjoyed all the trailheads we met him. My special one loves these trails and knows there is always an icecream shop and he did manage his 5km walk.

While on our return trip back, my younger one showed me a spatula and I asked why and he said to chase foxes, if any he sees on the trail.😃 He did not tell me before we left otherwise I would have canceled the trip. I also watch too many crime shows and most happens on these trails 🤔.

Anyhow he wanted a gift and I thought this magnet was a perfect prize for him.😊

Just a note, my son does Triathlon and has done lot of training and due to an injury he was out of commission. He had to undergo lot of physical training exercises to get back to this form. I am really happy he did it. He learnt about patience that was needed to come back to his form. His planning and execution was flawless today and I am hoping he can apply the same in real life situations. I asked his permission if I could blog about his trip and he said “yes”.

Here are some pictures that he took on his trip.

A great experience provided my younger one. Going to bed after a long day. Oh boy tracking him on google maps does drain not only the phone’s battery but my energy too 😂!
